The temperatures at night are now getting colder, low enough to harm some bonsai if they are kept outdoors.
The following species of tree are threatened at this time of year:
- Bougainvillea – this lovely bonsai needs to be kept at temperatures above 5°C,
- Serissa – also needs a temperature above 5°C,
- Myrtle – slightly more hardy, but don’t leave outside in temperatures below 2°C,
- Pepper trees – this bonsai should not be subjected to a temperature below 5°C.
Keep your eye on the weather forecast: if you keep your tree outside all of the above bonsai tree species should be moved indoors for the winter once temperatures fall to the levels shown.
Other species are hardy to a couple of degrees below freezing.
